From good girl to bad, Lea Michele the goody Ms. two shoes of Glee poses for a Cosmo Magazine cover as a naughty girl. Cosmo primarily talked about sex, bodies, and boyfriends. There are always little tips and side notes on what to wear, and what not to wear, and through these tips they try to sell you the different clothing and make up that they sponsor. Literally this magazine is the Bible for women. Cosmo Magazine takes the good girls from movies and TV shows and turns them into a sexier self. Lea Michele’s roll on Glee is to be the stuck up nerdy girl who always wants everything perfect. The way she dresses is a whole other story. She wears hideous sweaters, jackets and various other outfits that do not compliment her body in any way. In the magazine Michele is far from covered up. She isn’t presented as in interesting, mature woman, but as a sexual object to be looked upon.
The first thing that pops out at you in the cover of Cosmo Magazine for this edition was Lea Michele’s breasts; they are the focal point of the photo. Men do not respect girls that pose like this. Some men look at all women like objects but all men look at women that pose like this as objects. The way that Michele is posing clearly is trying to draw attention to her breasts. Michele is a very pretty women, and very successful, but when you see someone posing like this for a magazine it is less about who they are then how they look.
The words on the cover that always pop out to a reader are the biggest and boldest and the words are “The Sex Quiz.” Obviously, this magazine is for an older audience in which educates woman about sex. In the past sex was not talked about at all, it was a very private and intimate thing. Today sex is everywhere on TV, in magazines, books and everything else, making it hard to keep clear from all the sexual content everywhere. There have been many disputes about the way TV and magazines have started to change all of our community. Teenage pregnancy is common, because girls think that it’s alright having sex at such a young age. Cosmo magazine is one of the magazines communicates to women that sex is important and should be one of the central pursuits and focuses of their lives.
After your eyes have skimmed the page and you have seen the big words “The Sex Quiz”, than you see the words “Get Naked!” with a big exclamation mark after it. Some people think, to be a beautiful woman is wear as little clothes as possible or even to take your clothes off. Immodesty, not modesty is presented as a virtue. That’s what summer is all about wearing cute “summer” clothes. Since men do judge women on the way they dress. Than women who dress in such clothes are going to be dubbed, easy or whores.
In conclusion, Lea is now looked differently upon by many people. Was it Cosmo that ruined her? There are many things to look at and analyze when looking at this magazine. We should really all stop and think about the way magazines like this shape woman’s interests or even future. This magazine tells us that the way to be women is to be beautiful, sexually active, and be open with our bodies, instead of having these sayings and remarks on the cover they could have “The College Quiz” or how to get smart in only 5 days or a cute picture of Lea Michele with glasses or a book in her hard.
